| Testing Schedule: | 24 hours/day, 7 days/week | ||

| Routine: 30-45 minutes for thawing and preparation | |||
| Collection Information: | A PT/APTT should be performed for patient prior to ordering FFP, and results recorded on Transfusion Service Requisition form. Repeat PT and APTT after transfusion is recommended. An ABO/Rh is also required. Obtain specimen by standard collection procedures. | ||
| Transport Information: | Deliver to lab immediately. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory. | ||
| Reference Clients: | If unable to deliver to the lab immediately, store and transport specimen at 2-8° C. Specimen must be received in the lab within 48 hours. All specimens drawn as outpatients will be for informational purposes only not for transfusion. | ||
| Causes for Rejection: | Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, incorrect/delay in transport, grossly hemolyzed, failure to provide a properly completed Transfusion Requisition Form and a Blood Infusion Form. | ||
| Reference Range: | NA | ||
| Additional Information: | FFP is thawed at 37° C and is then stored at 1-6° C until it is transfused. Transfuse preferably within six hours of thawing, but no longer than 24 hours. The product can not be thawed and refrozen. | ||
| Indications for Use: Treatment of coagulation factor deficiencies for which specific concentrates are not available. May be indicated during massive transfusions of red blood cells as source of stable and labile coagulation factors. | |||
